Slashdot posted a story about entries in Google’s newsgroups search site (formerly DejaNews) about the possibly of a Y2K problem that were posted in 1985.

The sixth reply is from Henry Spencer of the University of Toronto, Department of Zoology whose NetNews archive was key to providing Google with these old postings.

So it was Spencer L. Bolles’s fault that I spent six month doing Y2K compliance documentation.

The secrets of RW®C and DVS®

Confused by the notes "also in Limited RW®C" or "also in Limited RW®C and DVS®" found in the Famous Players movie listings in Canada?

The CPB/WGBH National Center for Accessible Media has a FAQ that includes information on the Rear Window Captioning System and Descriptive Video Service found in some Famous Players Theatres.

Whenever Famous Players has a RW®C or DVS® movie, its showtimes are also listed under the main title. For people not using this service there is no difference in watching the movie – unless you look behind you to see the backwards captioning on the pixel board at the rear of the theatre. The RW®C or DVS® movies are listed on the Famous Players website seperately.
