In the Company of Others by Julie E. Czerneda won the 2002 Prix Aurora Award for Best Canadian Long-Form Work in English (from Locus). It beat The Chronoliths by Robert Charles Wilson among other widely known titles. 1:32:07 PM

Microsoft announced a $2.3 million funding agreement with University of Waterloo. UW will receive money to do some research related to the Tablet PC and will agree to replace C++ in a compulsory course with Microsoft’s C#. Many people feel that UW is selling out to Microsoft (pdf). 1:20:21 PM

Throughout a lengthy piece attacking, the Middle East Media Research Institute (Memri), the organization that provides translations of often wildly anti-Semitic Arab language news stories, Brian Whitaker of the Guardian (who’s not leaving unfortunately) doesn’t even offer one actual incorrect translation. All he does is rant against the people who run the organization and attack one mistake, that of calling a newspaper government owned rather than pro-government. 12:49:00 PM

The LA Times has an article on Leni Riefenstahl. At the age of 99, Riefenstahl can look shortly to join up with her buddy Hitler in hell. When she dies, I doubt any Hollywood studios are going to run ads in Variety to remember her, unless it’s to gloat. 1:14:01 AM
