Prime Minister Jean Chrétien stated that Canada would take part in any UN authorized action against Iraq, while the Defence Minister, John McCallum has said Canada could make a "sizeable commitment".

Earlier in the year, Canada withdrew its regular forces from Afghanistan freeing up troops for a future action. Also of importance could be Canadian fighter-bombers, and ships. The latter are now more important with the terrorist attack on an oil tanker showing the need to escort potential targets.

Ha’aretz reports that Baroness Susan Greenfield, a renowned neuroscientist and the director of the UK’s Royal Institution has attacked a proposed academic boycott of Israel. The fact that such a thing has been proposed is a major example of what’s wrong in Europe.

The winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature was Imre Kertesz, a Jewish-Hungarian novelist and Holocaust survivor. In addition to surviving Auschwitz and Buchenwald, he faced forty years of living in a communist dictatorship before the fall of communism allowed his works to become widely known.

Just as Jordanian engineers are starting to examine the bulge on the southern wall of Jerusalem's Temple Mount, another bulge is starting to form on a section of its western side, to the right of the holy Western Wall area where Jewish people pray. This new bulge is believed to be caused by water leaks from the Islamic areas above.

Clearly the Islamic authorities that control the day to day actions on the Temple Mount are incapable of protecting this site. Replacing them might be needed.
