"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Opec chief warned Chavez about coup [guardian.co.uk]: 'Mr Chavez told Newsnight: "I have written proof of the time of the entries and exits of two US military officers into the headquarters of the coup plotters - their names, whom they met with, what they said - proof on video and on still photographs."'

It certainly looks like the US role in the coup will come out.

State terrorism. The primary use of terrorism in the world is by national governments to repress dissent. Remember Guatemala? Remember El Salvador?

It's time to say that state-sponsored assassination is always, only terrorism, whether it's Sharon or Bush choosing who gets whacked. Murder from a helicopter, jet, or unmanned drone is still murder.

Governments must use legitimate methods. Criminals can be arrested and tried. Armies can be sent to defeat governments.

U.S. hit squads signal new twist to Afghan war [canoe.ca].
