Defining a variable in FrontPage

Variables in FrontPage are useful for adding content to your site that might change. For example, if you want to refer to a phone number, but the phone number might change, you can define a variable for the phone number, and then place the variable on your pages. If the phone number changes, you simply change the value of the variable you defined, and new the phone number is automatically displayed in your web.

To define a variable:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Web Settings, and then click the Parameters tab.
  2. Click Add.
  3. In the Name box, type a name for the variable.
  4. In the Value box, type a value for the variable.

To use the variable on your pages:

  1. From the Insert menu choose Component then choose Substitution.
  2. From the Subsitution Properties dialog box select the name of your variable from the list.
  3. Click Ok.
