When Microsoft FrontPage calculates the Site Summary and Slow Pages reports in Reports view, it defines pages that will download slowly, or "slow" pages, as pages that will take at least 20 seconds to download at a connection speed of 14.4 baud. Use this procedure to change the default number of seconds to download and assumed connection speed that FrontPage uses to define "slow" pages when it calculates these reports.
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Reports View tab.
In the Assume connection speed of box, select the connection speed of your target audience. For example, if your web will be browsed by home users with modem connections, select 28.8 or 56.6. If your web will be browsed on a corporate intranet by users with dedicated network connections, select T1 or T3.
In the "Slow" pages take at least box, type or select the number of seconds that define a "slow" page at the assumed connection speed.
Tip As a general guideline, a page that takes more than 20 seconds to download — no matter what the assumed connection speed is — will be considered "slow" by people browsing your web.
Knowing certain information about visitors to your Web site-their operating systems, browser versions, and connection speeds, for example-helps you decide which technologies and features to include on your site.
A new feature in Microsoft FrontPage 2002 makes it easy to collect this important information. Here's how:
On the Insert menu, click Web Component.
In the Component type list, click Top 10 List.
In the Choose a usage list section on the right, click the type of user information you want to track.
Click Finish.
In the List settings box, enter a title for your list.
Choose a style.
Click OK.
Note: This will only work if your Web Presence Provider (WPP) supports the FrontPage 2002 server extensions and they have usage analysis turned on.
