Shot of The Day

<< Behold, the power of Me >>

(Frozen solid. Perhaps the strain of Las Vegas was more than it could bear.)

Some Show News From N+I Day 2

  • Get your Gantt On. Today Microsoft announced that it's forthcoming project management tool, Project 2002, had reached final code and that it would be available in about 30 days. No big news there, except this release will include two new products designed for enterprise use:a .NET-based server app and a Web portal interface.
  • Intel unveils cheap Gig Cards. You heard right. In order to push the industry forward, Intel today announced that it would release new Gigabit Ethernet desktop and server NICS at prices rivaling its current cadre of 10/100 cards. It looks like 10/100 may have just gone the way of betamax.
  • F5 Sells Software, No, Really. Apparently, F5 Networks (a big Well-Connected Award Winner) believes so much in server blades, the company announced "software" for a number of server-blade products from Compaq, Fujitsu, Dell, and RLX Technologies. This software (the BIG-IP Blade Controller) will bring F5's greatly admired WAN load balancing and caching technologies to these existing products. Of course, at a later date, F5 will release it's own blade server product.

Networld+Interop, Day 2

Well, the staff made it through the first day on the show floor yesterday without causing too much trouble, although a number of our editors managed to stay tucked away in a conference room, plotting and planning for that evening's Best of Interop Awards ceremony. The show was a big success, drawing well over 200 vendors and interested parties.

Although we streamed the show live last night, we'll have it again available on-demand later today. So check in at our show site, where you can find it as well as the list of winners and finalists.

We'll be back with interesting news tidbits and show happenings shortly.
