Announcing:

The Slat Rat's First Annual Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic

I've been watching the ice rot on the Lagoon for the past week. It dawned on me that I should sponsor an Ice Classic - a sort of homespun version of the Nenana Ice Classic. A brilliant idea, I think. Without further ado, here are the rules:

Rules:

  1. The participant must guess the date the ice goes out of the Lagoon.
  2. Each participant gets only one guess.
  3. A guess consists of just a date - no time. I refuse to install a timing tripod on the Lagoon.
  4. I will check the ice several times each day.
  5. ALL the ice must go out. It sometimes goes out in chunks - but chunks don't count.
  6. Participants must supply their e-mail address. This is so I can contact you if you win.
  7. If more than one person guesses the winning date, each winner will get a full prize - up to 4 winners. If there are more than 4 winners, the winning 4 will be selected based upon earliest entry into the contest.
  8. Ah - the prize. It's a good one - a $25 gift certificate to Amazon.

Voting:

  1. Voting will be done through the comments feature.
  2. The comments button for this post is after the last photo.
  3. Click on the comments button and submit your vote.
  4. The cool thing is that everyone will be able to see everyone else's vote - hopefully there will be a lot of them.

Notes and Hints:

  1. Last year the ice went on April 28th.
  2. If I got to vote, I'd vote for May 2.
  3. Below are a few pictures of the Lagoon's current state:

Ah - Friday night at home: baseball, pets, blogging, and the ski boy.

Tonight's wine: St. Francis McCoy Vineyard 1998 Cabernet Franc. A nice wine - very smooth. But that's what one would expect from a Cabernet Franc. (That sure sounded wine snobby didn't it?)

I saw one of these yesterday. Very cool.

Mom and I sat in on a blogging seminar by Megnut and Jason today. The anchorage-ite audience was very receptive and interested. Mom is so hot to start blogging! So - Mom, when are we going to see your blog?! My particular interest is enterprise blogging behind the firewall.

As I sit here blogging on the couch, Peter is offering grammatical advice. He objects to anchorage-ite with a small a. Peter has now left in disgust.

Great Great Great blog. A unique and focused multimedia presentation.

The SpamLetters. For example, this letter is a mega hoot.
