How Bad Luck Miraculously Turned into Good Luck
Last week, I was the proud owner of a Sony Clie PEG NX70V - his name was Marconi (a pun on the whole wireless thing). Marconi was a Valentine's Day present from the Ski Boy. Well, I used Marconi last Sunday and all was well. But on Monday afternoon, when I opened him at Clem's Vet's office, his display had a large octopus splatted on it. The display had imploded from the inside and the "ink" spread in an octopus pattern
I was completely bummed.
The next day, I gathered up Marconi and all his accoutrements and trundled off to CompUSA where he had come from. When we bought Marconi, we signed up for the PDA protection plan. I had become a big fan of protection plans after I cracked the backlight on a laptop and discovered that the replacement cost was $2000. Anyhoo, I didn't have high hopes that swapping Marconi out was going to be simple. I figured I'd get grilled and probably wouldn't get a full value replacement.
Well, guess what? They were very gracious - they checked Marconi over, agreed he was one cooked puppy and issued me an instore credit for his full price. Wow!
At that point, it dawned on me that this was - ta da - an Upgrade Opportunity. Oh Boy! So I kicked in another $200 plus money for a new PDA protection plan and purchased the latest and greatest Clie: The NZ90. It is so hot! A two megapixel camera - with a flash. A more robust design. Compatibility with 3rd party flash memory, etc.
I also took the opportunity to upgrade to the full version of Intellisync. The folks at PumaTech have developed a work around to the Outlook e-mail synchronization problem. They have you download an older version of PalmMail. And it works quite nicely.
So, all's well that ends well. All we have to do now is dream up a name for this guy.
