38 years in Alaska!
 On this date in 1965, in the middle of the afternoon, Mom and I pulled into Anchorage in Henry, our little red VW Bug.
It took us ten days to drive from Denver to Anchorage. We checked into the Westward Hotel (now the Hilton - but it was way better as the Westward) and Mom's first act was to take me down to Hotel beauty shop and have my very long, fine blond hair cut down to a pixie (the Mary Andrews in Sound of Music haircut). A ten day road trip with a six year old with tangled hair focuses one's priorities.
