As I type (at 10:45 PM), it is snowing to beat the band.
Again!
We had a surprise eight inches of snow yesterday. At forty four inches of snow for the year, we're sixteen inches over our average for this time of year. Two weeks ago, Alyeska had no snow on the top of the mountain. They now have seven feet.
Yippee!!!

The Ski Boy and I just got in from the annual Marston Christmas party - hands down, my favorite holiday party of season. The Marstons are a multigenerational Anchorage family - very rare in Alaska. Their holiday party is always an event - there are two groups: "old" Anchorage - folks in their 70's and 80's - pillars of Anchorage society type of folks. And then us young folks - I've been going to this party for 15 years and 15 years ago, I would have counted as a young person. But now, at 45, us young folks are ageing up. Pretty soon, my group's children will be attending.
Anyhoo, the old Anchorage group party starts at 6:00 PM and then the younger set starts showing up at 7:00 PM. At the height of the party, there are probably 250 people in the house. The great thing is, because I grew up in Anchorage, I know tons of people in both groups. It is definitely a trip down memory lane.
Oh - and it is a very dressy affair - which is extremely unusual for Alaska. Suits and holiday ties for the men. Holiday dresses for the women. I always wear a dressy outfit to this event - except this year. I'm still just too fluey to go all out. But there's nothing like rich cranberry colored wool dress slacks, a simple black silk mock turtle neck sweater and lots of walrus ivory and sterling silver to allow one to slide by on the dress code front...Accessorizing is everything!
