In the past two days we've received eighteen inches of snow. And according to the weather service, a new storm moving in tonight is expected to dump another eight to twelve inches tonight and an additional four inches tomorrow.
I'm beginning to think we're going to need a snorkle for the house.

Normally, Clemmie is a big snow hound. However, the snow is now deeper than she is tall. And it is fluffy fluffy fluffy powder. So, when she goes outside, she sort of sinks out of sight - which is pretty amazing considering that she is an eighty pound Bouvier. To get from point A to point B, she does this Pepe Le Pew hop thing which results in a string of giant sitzmark plops across the yard.
When Clemmie attempts to do her doggly duties in the powder heaven that is our backyard, she basically has to poop uphill. As one can imagine, Clem doesn't much go for that (so to speak). So, for the past several days, we've have to find a plowed area where she can attend to her personal business.
Peter and Clem.
Peter just shoveled a path off the back deck for Clem. Of course, once Clem leaves the deck, the snow is over her head...
By the way, I thought, that for a night shot, this picture turned out particularly well. I think I've finally figured out the "nightframing" feature on my Sony DSC-F707.

Today is the Winter Solstice. A very big deal here in Alaska.
Today's daylight was 5 hours and 28 minutes.
Sunrise was at 10:14 AM. Sunset was at 3:43 PM.
The days start getting longer tomorrow! Actually, that's not quite true - on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd, the days are basically the same length. But starting on the 23rd, the daylight hours start increasing.

So - do you know what's trippy? Attempting to do Zen meditation the morning after a stout nightime dose of codeine based cough medicine. Man - I think I floated off my zafu more than once.
