In a show of support for beef, Pooh, the Ski Boy, and myself dined at Sullivan's Steakhouse this evening. We asked the wine steward to recommend a hidden gem on the wine list. He selected Elyse's 2000 d'Adventure, which turned out to be a great recommendation.
 The d'Adventure is a Rhone blend - seven(!) different Rhone varietals. The wine took a bit of time to open up - it was at cellar temperature and definitely needed to warm up. But once it reached room temperature - Wow! Big, but extremely well blended - this wine did not fall apart on the palette. Pepper and spice with a good nose. And it really went well with food. Big, but a definite team player kind of wine.
Too bad it's so hard to find...

This afternoon, I took Clemmie out to do her doggly duties. We made it to the end of our driveway only to discover, in the cul de sac, a young male moose with hackles up, pursuing at a slow but purposeful pace, two ice skaters trying to make their way to the Lagoon. The skaters were able to escape over the edge to the Lagoon when the moose suddenly became very interested in Clemmie and me.
Clem and I aren't dumb. We immediately scurried back inside. I grabbed my camera, went out onto the front deck where I had a bird's eye view of our young bullwinkle munching down our shrubs and Christmas lights.
 This little guy has to be the smallest adult moose I've ever seen. He's definitely an adult - he has the hump, the dewlap, and most assuredly, the hackles of an adult Alces alces gigas - just sort of at 3/4's normal moose size. Maybe he's the first of a new subspecies: Alces alces minaturarus.
