I got an e-mail today from one of my good friends who is gay. She and her partner are flying to Portland to get married. She is the first of my gay friends to take the plunge! So, this is the first chance I've had to think gay marriage through in the context of someone I actually know.

From the get go, I have, of course, supported gay marriage - what else would one expect from a moderate such as myself? But, when I read my friend's e-mail, I just got all warm and fuzzy. She and her partner are sooooo happy. This is such a big deal for them. For us straight folks, marriage, is well, just one of those options that we get to select or not select. But gay people don't have that option. And for the marrying types, whether they be straight or gay, not to have the option of getting married. Well, that's just wrong.

So, when I responded to my friend, I asked her all the usual wedding questions - Rings? Are they registered? What are they going to wear? etc. It was just so much fun. And so great.
