The 2:30 PM Internal GCI Mark update:
According to the just-released official race stats, Mark checked out of White Mountain at 1:53 this afternoon. He is in 62nd position with 14 dogs. It should take eight or nine hours to reach the final checkpoint at Safety. Depending on whether or not he stops in for a burger and a beer at Safety, Mark should pass beneath the burled arch and the finish line in Nome two or three hours later.

This special edition of the Mark Moderow Iditarod Update is brought to you by veteran GCI correspondent David Morris direct from Front Street in Nome.
Excitement is high here, and getting higher. Mark's wife -- along with an injured dog -- and daughter arrived in Nome this morning. To say that they are enthusiastic is an understatement. Neither one can sit down for more than a few seconds. His son will be calling in from Europe when Mark finishes.
They are expecting Mark to arrive under the Burled Arch tonight between midnight and 4:00 a.m. They are delighted that Mark has so many dogs still in his team -- 14. This shows the amount of dog care Mark has given along the Trail. It also may help explain the quick pace he has set in the last few legs.
The GCI Nome office will serve as the official greeting committee and camera crew. A very nice bottle of champagne -- compliments of Mark's Legal & Regulatory Affairs mates -- is currently been chilled. No one here thinks the 1991 vintage will last another day.

Here's this morning's Mark Moderow Iditarod progress update:
Mark Moderow arrived in White Mountain this morning at 5:46. He is currently in 62nd place with 14 dogs in his team. Mark has an eight-hour mandatory rest stop to complete at the checkpoint. He can check out of White Mountain as early as 1:47 this afternoon.
Once Mark is again on the trail, he will mush up the Fish River, through the Topkok Hills and down the Klokeblok River drainage to Norton Sound before he reaches the checkpoint at Safety. It will take eight or nine hours to cover the 55 miles.
Here's a nifty map showing Mark's progress.
