After 14 years of very loyal service, Crapbox has moved on to his next adventure. He's now going to be a "parts runner" for FATS (Foreign Auto & Truck Service). He made it through the summer as the primary vehicle for Seth, Alix, and Erin. However, by October 1st, Erin's last day here in Anchorage, he was wheezing and staggering. Erin took him for one last outing - he almost died in the Fred Meyer parking lot, but he rallied for the drive home. He never started again.
Last week I had him towed to FATS - I was hoping for a simple fuel pump problem. However, after 97,000 miles poor Crapbox had lost compression in three of his four cylinders. Total repair cost $1700.
At that point, I figured it was the crusher for sure for poor ol' Crapbox. However, FATS has a soft spot for 4WD Corollas. So, they made me an offer of $200 and footed the towing bill. I jumped on it! Crapbox will become sort of a "shop project" for FATS and then when he's all better, he'll be zoomin' around in his new guise as "parts runner extraordinaire".
Here's a picture of Crapbox from last Thanksgiving. Everyone there, at different times, had used Crapbox as their primary mode of transportation for several months.
