Man, it was a tough tough day on the navigational front. Forget about geocaching. Heck, I couldn't even locate the Pete's Coffee that was only two miles from my hotel. sigh...
But, Slat Rats are a stubborn and adaptive breed. So, I got my coffee at Starbucks and weaved my way up to Grant Park. I had problems with road signage and got suckered into side roads off the very twisty Mt. Hamilton road more than once. But finally, at 2:00 PM, I pulled into the Grant Park parking lot and proceeded to get confuddled by the trails and the trail map. At 3:00 PM, I ended right back up at my car after having gone in a giant circle..
I was reminded of my buddy Carol's statement: a successful failure. It was a nice day: 85 degrees and almost too hot. The trails and surrounding forest was quite pretty. But, I was a bit grumpy with myself on the navigational front.
However, I finally pulled it together and got in tune with my map and my GPS. After another two hours of hiking, I had polished off three pretty nifty caches! There were several more on my list. But I was so beat that I just turned around and headed back to the car and back down the mountain and back home. And of course, on the way home, I found the Peet's coffee that I had missed earlier.
All in all, a good day. I was out in the hot sun and got a nice dose of California nature.
Speaking of California nature, here are a pair of Slat Rat relatives. I didn't see the second bunny in the bushes until I got back home this evening and looked at the picture!!!!!

What a tree!!!!! Some sort of forest sprite must live here.

I passed by this stand-alone-in-the-middle-of-nowhere shower on the way back to my car. I was sooooooo tempted to stop, get naked, and get clean and cool off. But, Slat Rats are a tad shy and who knows who could have walked by. Plus that yellow thing hanging on the corner is actually a wasp trap and it was loaded with wasps. I didn't want to get naked in the middle of wasp country.
