Security and System reinstalls - This weekend I had to do a system reinstall of win2k to fix a dodgy CFMX problem. After that I did NOT install the MS security updates for IIS. Big mistake... Within 2 hours of work/browsing, my machine was absolutely infested with viruses. Mostly IRC trojans, but the worst was BackGate Kit alias NT.hack. Information on it here. The instructions were only partly useful, I had to search the registry for FireDaemon.exe and then remove all those keys and there were a LOAD of them. Then I threw the folder away, the path to which is in the linked technote. This was a bad one folks. If you run IIS, get your updates! 9:37:28 AM      comment []
