Contribute Tip CSS Styles in Contribute - To prevent a CSS style from being available to Contribute users, change the name of the style so that the name starts with “mmhide_” (without quotation marks). For example, if you use a style named Right_Justified in a page but you don’t want Contribute users to be able to use that style, rename the style to mmhide_Right_Justified.

Macromedia today announced Contribute - the newest web authoring tool from Macromedia. Contribute is designed to radically change the way you work with content contributors for existing sites, or to allow you to let less technical people create pages using templates and office documents without having to hand hold them through the entire process. There are also many many features for administration that let you control how the user interacts with the product. My favorite? You can limit the size of graphics that a user is allowed to insert... :-) No more HUGE SLOW files...

From the web site...

Whether you're a content provider or a web professional, find out how Macromedia Contribute can save you time and streamline your web content maintenance process. Contribute is the easiest way to update content for any HTML website, including sites built in Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft FrontPage, and other web tools. With Contribute, non-technical users can make changes while automatically respecting site standards for style, layout, and code in minutes without knowing HTML.

I have been using Contribute for weeks on a commercial site that I am working on and for the first time, the whole group of people, from writers to back end folks are able to work on the site at the same time without fear of overwriting other's work or having someone mess up a page that they are not competent to work on.

  • When is it available? No release date but the preview release is on the site now.
  • What will it cost? $99 for regular users and $79 for educational use. There are aggressive volume discounts as well.
  • Do I need more than one copy for my team? Yes, the product is licensed per seat so you need to get a copy for each person you intend to use the product.

Also will be blogging about Contribute daily along with DMX:

11/11/1918 -

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies
grow In Flanders fields.
