Redirect based on screen resolution - I knew that this was possible, but never had to find out how to do this till this week. It is so easy. I was amazed. There is a nice little extension from Massimo Foti on the Exchange to do this, but I wanted to dig in a little. One quick search on Google resulted in a link to PageResource which is a nice little site. I would very much recommend that this become something that you add to your normal resource sites.
Anyway the redirect... Browsers since the v4 browsers can determine the screen resolution by using the screen.width and screen.height properties. If you set a script in your head that looks for a screen resolution in an if statement, you can redirect to various pages that work for that size.
There is a nice example right there at the article.
Why not just design for the lowest common denominator? Because 800x600 is getting rare in the same way that NS4 is getting rare. I don't think that it can be ignored, but neither should it drive your development.
