I find it amazing that in a week the global research community can make this kind of progress. I think that it is a good test for it seems a statistical certainty that we will have an outbreak of a disease soon that will be both infectious and lethal. Why? Becaue there is so much global travel. This has been a useful practice.
I see a link though between disease with blogging. Has not blogging increased the ability of an idea to be "infectious"? The internet helped. A bit like Global travel. Email is better. But the issue is how to find the good memes from all the noise. The good memes are the ones that are "lethal". They penetrate the mental immune system and they change how we think. This is surely where blogging has its value. Blogging acts as a filter so that the really good memes get pumped up. The hubs add lethality as they give credence to the idea. We can see this so clearly right now as we watch on the war being blogged.
