John Gets His Eagle Yesterday our neighbor and friend John Vanderwerff became one of the 4% of Boy Scouts to earn the rank of Eagle. As a member of the other 96%, I was impressed. John could have taken an easier, alternative route to his Eagle because he has Down Syndrome, but he chose to do it the hard way. It was a cool ceremony with a color guard and candles. John made a speech to the crowd. Afterwards there was a reception for John's family and friends. 4:35:43 PM

Possible Media/Weblog Fusion I met today with Tom Corrigan, who runs online operations for the News & Record. It was a private chat, but I can say that Corrigan knows what he wants to do as the N&R follows up its ambitious early Web strategy with a clear-eyed business plan; that his vision makes sense to me; and that one tool he is considering is the weblog. 4:08:55 PM

More Tara Sue Grubb A very interesting discussion in the comments section of the original "Meet Tara Grubb" posting below about the role of P2P in her campaign, whether she should be a single issue candidate or not. In my conversations with her, she seems to see that a single issue can stand for a larger vision. Here's what she posted yesterday: "P2P is the issue that forecasts the future. Whether that future holds a free internet or a constant battle between us and them rests with this and the next few elections. The future is where I am looking. Coble represents the past." In response to my statement that beating Coble will be almost impossible, she challenged me to define "impossible." Today on the phone I gave her my working definition of the word: beating Howard Coble as a neophyte Libertarian running on the issue of P2P. She laughed. I'm supposed to meet her in person tomorrow. 11:52:38 AM
