BloggerCorps lives.

Rebecca MacKinnon had the idea and then made it so: "It will evolve organically based on the needs of the people who wind up using it."

Jeff Jarvis: "When the lady went on about what offends her, I said that the homophobia on the 700 Club offends me, but I don't suggest it should be taken off the air or fined by the government. I change the channel. Pick up the remote, I said."

Zephyr Teachout says campaigns and political groups dropped the ball by ignoring Meetup as an organizing tool. "The great missed opportunity of 2004 was the failure of every major leader and leadership group to embrace and nurture the capacity of local groups of volunteer activists to form ongoing face-to-face organizing cells using the Internet. The Bush campaign did this using churches, but no group embraced the unique power of the net to do the same thing."

My own reporting on the use of the web by US Senate campaigns made me wonder why the organizational power of the web was underused in state-wide races.

Zephyr said at Dean HQ in late 2003: "I can imagine the campaign without the blog, but not without Meetup."

Thomas Friedman went to Falluja and assessed the future of Iraq:

We can still emerge with a decent outcome. And the whole thing could still end very badly. There's only one thing one can say for sure today: you won't need to wait much longer for the tipping point. Either the elections for a new governing body happen by the end of January, as scheduled, and the rout of Saddam loyalists in Falluja is consolidated and extended throughout the Sunni triangle, or not. If it's the former, there are still myriad challenges ahead, but you can be somewhat hopeful. If it's the latter, we've got a total fiasco on our hands.

TheShu has a report on last night's Greensboro Blogger Meetup. Way to go Billy Jones for pulling that off.

I was sorry to miss it, but Lisa needed to be distracted from the impending bar mitzvah, so my mom took the kids out to dinner and I took Lisa to Vito's, where she could worry about the details of this weekend over Italian food.
