My blogging software host has been down much of the day, which makes it hard to post...I've written stuff, it just hasn't been publishing. Frustrating. Radio has also been doing a less-good job of tracking site traffic for the last week or so...But they have added a feature that allows me to edit comments, which is good. But I hate being tethered to my laptop, TypePad is looking better every day... 5:30:41 PM comment [] |
Paul Boutin at TNR Online: "There are only three or four million iPod owners on Earth, but they're disproportionately affluent, powerful, and eager to change the world. Too much of their energy is directed into venting at record companies, but it's possible their new medium could be used to open their ears to a new message. If that's true, Bono might look into the new fad of 'podcasting.'" 4:43:54 PM comment [] |
"Exactly what happened?" the 911 operator asked. Obviously, this sick woman is not a representative of any religious belief system. But imagine what the reaction from, say, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly would be if the words "rap music" or "heavy metal" were substituted for the hymn... ...just yesterday, Rush blamed hip-hop for making those brawling NBA players into thugs. 4:20:22 PM comment [] |
If you have news, weather, or sports information about the ACC...send it to me for the ACC Hoops Blog. And please tell your friends about it, especially ones with large email lists of college basketball fans. 4:10:13 PM comment [] |
At least two people are working on aggregator pages for local weblogs...expect to see a table of contents page for Guilford County blogs by next week. I just gave Roch Smith Jr. some feedback on form and function for his Greensboro101.com, and I've talked in the comments here and via email with The Shu...I don't know if they're talking to each other, yet, but I hope they will. 2:44:00 PM comment [] |
I was admiring the new window display down the block at Elsewhere...now I find out (via The Shu) that Elsewhere has a guest artist, Jane Irwin, and that she's blogging her experience in Greensboro. Nice photos of the store and downtown GSO. Still waiting for that Elsewhere blog, though. 2:37:29 PM comment [] |
Are North Carolina schools shying away from teaching evolution in science classes? Teacher Margery Misenheimer wonders if we are entering an era of "de-education." A review of several textbooks has her worried, as she says in this op-ed published in the Greensboro and Raleigh papers. "Was the near-absence of evolution in textbooks a reflection of our political climate? Of the book samples I have received so far, only one, published by a company in North Carolina, provides thorough coverage of the topic. Are other states experiencing a filter that is culling out what may conflict with the current administration's agenda of moral values?" Yes, other states are calling the tune. 8:13:11 AM comment [] |
Hog blogging -- a weblog dedicated to North Carolina barbecue reviews (via Greensboro is Talking, aka the bloghunter, who keeps finding new local writers). Somewhere, barbecue bard Jerry Bledsoe is smiling. Well, he's probably in Asheboro, and he's probably wondering when I'm going to finish the galleys of his new book about RF Micro and the communications revolution. Soon. It's interesting stuff. 8:05:07 AM comment [] |
