From Andy at Exiled Planet
Aug 18, 2003: Deja Vu All Over Again [Exiled Planet]

I have to agree. The gasoline shortage in Phoenix today was SO reminiscent of the 1970's. We may need to throw in a presidential impeachment to really "capture the mood."

Unusually Large Cheesesteak Sandwich Shipment Reported in Vermont
Philly Cheesesteaks in Burlington.

When Governor Dean came to Philly last week, I was one of the 4000 cheering supporters who came out to see him outside the Constitution Center. Admittedly, the Governor wasn't the only attraction at the event for me. My son, Eric, who I raised in Philly, works in the communications office for the campaign, and helped staff the Governor when he came to town. There were two things that I was dissapointed with that day. First, I didn't get to see Eric for more than 2 minutes, as he was running around frantically when we found out that the Governor's flight was 90 minutes late coming into Philly. Second, though the Governor clearly knew how to talk to Philadelphians (even shouting "Yo! Philadelphia!"), and he knew how to dress for Philadelphians (he donned a Phillies jersey), he didn't get a chance to eat the local cuisine.

cheesesteak.jpgSo yesterday, I went down to Pat's King of Steaks and didn't just order a cheesesteak for the Governor, I ordered fifty orders of "whiz wit" (cheese whiz with onions) so everyone up at the headquarters would know what we're so proud of here in Philly. I packed them up with some classic Philly deserts -- Tastykakes -- and shipped them off to Burlington. So far, the reviews I have gotten back from the staff are pretty good!

[Click here to watch a video on Howard Dean TV of the DFA Burlington staff receiving their cheesesteaks. If you're on broadband, please allow your computer time to download the latest installment from Dean TV.]

Now, one of the issues I had with the trip to Philly has been resolved; Burlington has gotten their cheesesteaks. Eric, you get your butt back to Philly soon -- the Iggles season is about to begin!

'Surf Culture' at San Jose Museum of Art
Susan Mernit mentions the "Surf Culture" exhibit at The San Jose Museum of Art.

I saw this exhibit last year in Laguna Beach. "Surf Culture" is a real thing, from Polynesian history to Pop Art. It was quite a success for the Laguna Art Museum. Check it out if you are in Northern California. Many intelligent people across the globe are beginning to believe that the future of civilization actually depends on surf culture. ;o)

Denver Post - 'Bloghouse'
Not exactly Pete Townshend's 1970 "Lifehouse" vision, but maybe we're getting closer??? ;o)

Denver Post adds Blogs?. Not quite sure what to think of this, but as part of an extensive redesign, Denverpost.com has added "Bloghouse". So far it appears to have blogs from Lou from Littleton from 950 The Fan, Democratic activist Dani Newsum and an... [Stuff from Wozz 2.0]
