Total Information Awareness
The Total Information Awareness project in DARPA is coming under attack. I am surprised that it hasn't received more press than it has given its stated goals and objectives. Recent articles in the Washington Post, the New York Times and the London Guardian all call for closer scrutiny and controls on the project which is run out of the Information Awareness Office. The New York Times calls for Congress to "shut down the program pending a thorough investigation." Right now the project is just research. Federal intelligence agencies can already do many of the things outlined in TIA, just not very efficiently. Andy Oram gives his reasons to be suspicious of TIA.
