Legislative IT Issues

There was an interesting discussion today at the Utah IT Commission.  IBM proposed a convergence of state neworks into a single network as well as a unified IT budget.  The Commission is taking the concept under consideration, although I don't necessarily expect them to act soon.  Phil presented the Annual IT Report to the Legislature.

Meanwhile, another committee heard the first pass of the proposal to eliminate online credit card convenience fees and adjust service fees accordingly.

PCIS

Just held the November meeting of the Infragard of the Wasatch.  About 150 people showed up and Ken Watson of Cisco gave an excellent presentation.  Ken is the president of the Partnership for Critical Infrastructure Security.  Ken outlined some clear opportunities and responsibilities for government, the private sector, and academia in achieving the goal of secure infrastructure.  PCIS and Infragard are supporting the Stay Safe Online campaign for kids.  The poster contest ends on November 30th.

Official: Holiday Season on Capitol Hill
The installation of the christmas tree in the Capitol rotunda always signals the beginning of the holiday season around here.  We have had some incredible trees over the years and this year's tree is no exception.  It's always a big task for DFCM just to get the tree into the Capitol through two small doors.  Of course, the tree is a blue spruce.
