Today's joke background:
This week is USA Week at Insead, so the Americans throw a bunch of events to show off their culture, history, etc. Normally, students have name tags in their classes so that professors can cold call them. This week, everyone was issued a new, green tag with a new name on it. Green as in "green card" and names like Bart Simpson, Tina Turner, and Dick Cheney. My card reads "Calvin", and "Hobbes" sits a few seats down.
We were sitting in statistics class, and our professor, who doesn't know everyone by name, responded to one woman's comment by saying "...just as, um, Shirley Temple has said... Wait a minute. Oh, I see that you all have new name tags. I thought 'Shirley' is not uncommon, and neither is 'Temple' so it's not that unlikely to have a Shirley Temple here, but then I see that she is sitting next to Rocky Balboa and now I know something is going on..."
Remember that we were in the middle of Probability and Statistics, and that Jack Soll is a fantastic professor.
