This is amusing - as best a lame explanation to cover up negative results by Senator Frist's office.

I was reading about oil wells this morning (rrs mode - really random surfing) and found that the length of the drillstring is measured in mKB..

Hmmm. . what is a mKB?

A bit of searching turned up the answer - meters below the Kelly bushing. The Kelly bushing is the device at the top of the drillstring that spins the entire string. If you want the vertical depth you are talking about mSS (meters subsurface).

A great site for finding such things as well as browing is How Many?

recommended!

I think the US was the first country to have a decimal currency - probably Jefferson's doing as he was interested in decimal everything (other than time, but perhaps he did think about the beat).

While decimals are very convenient for computation I doubt that most people could measure out a tenth of something (power, liquid) as easily as they could measure an eighth (half * half * half).

Homemade twinkies? Why not. Todd Wilbur's Secret Recipe books reverse engineer many manufactured foods, but Twinkies are special.

Visit his webpage for more goodness. He offers a recipe of the week to lure you into his books.

Amazing stuff lurks in the vault. Even waffle house waffles!

My dismissal of some WiFi commercial plans wasn't taken well by a reader who sent a note that suggested that paid services are always better than those that are free.

I admit that I haven't sampled more than a few dozen WiFi hotspots, but my experience to date is that freenets work better with less hassle. It is clearly possible to build a fee based hotspot that offers great service, but I haven't seen one yet.

One interesting thing is that we are starting to see people stepping on each other's toes. How will the FCC regulate unregulated bands? We are getting to the point where people are spending serious money and their service quality may be a function of things completely out of their control.

Finally - a rather unusual ad from Norway.
