There are clearly thousands of ways a terrorist group (or even a single terrorist) could cause problems. Dealing with some of them may be too difficult for the risk involved, but chemical plants would seem to be a prime target.

Why is it that Congress blocks bills that would tighten security at these places?

Oh -- sorry -- that is obvious.

With depressing events dominating the news it seems reasonable to look for a bit of beauty.

There has been quit a bit of auroral activity over the past week and a very nice display was captured around Fairbanks, Alaska. (This is an animated gif made from a collection of still images taken over a ten minutes period).
