Hmmm ... so Al Gore is now a Unix user. Of course many of you are snickering about Al Gore and his "invention of the Internet"...

What if that statement turned out to be urban folklore? Some time ago the respected journal First Monday published a piece by Richard Wiggins on the incident and the larger issue of magnification of folklore and misinterpretations by the media and how this damages public discourse.

Security issues come up all the time and yet another makes it to the news.

One would hope that the military and other critical components of the government, wouldn't rely on a computational monoculture. Unfortunately they do (at least to first order). Many experts have commented that cyber attack is not such a big thing, but if we were to rely on one OS, I would rather it be OpenBSD. Of course this is impossible as the Feds are prone to trust the one true monopoly now as they did thirty years ago with another monopoly.
