Secretaries still re-type letters? I was out of town all last week and missed the news of hit lists traveling around our public middle schools. Finding out about it today finally, I thought I should check in to my back-up cell phone. Jamestown Middle School has mistakenly typed in my cell phone number into their system and they can't figure out how to get me off their automated phone message list. (Can't cross check a number in a database is my understanding) Last night I did indeed have a message from Jamestown Middle School principal Beverly Tucker. She had to explain the letter sent home with students yesterday. She wanted to make clear to parents that the information provided in the letter regarding "the recent issues" at the school was essentially correct but she apologized for the several "typographical errors" in the letter. Apparently, Mrs Tucker had given a letter to "my secretary" to make corrections to and then distribute copies of. However, the orginal letter with the mistakes was the one mistakenly copied and sent home with children. Question: How many people in the real world still write formal letters without the aid of a spellchecker and then hand them over to a secretary to re-type? Ya think there might be room for improvement in the operation of our public schools? It might be interesting to review this unedited letter produced by one of our GCS principals --- so we can grade it. 10:12:38 PM![]() |
