A picture named Army remote control plane.jpgSquiddies Over Iraq

Since few readers might find reason to visit the US Army recruiting home page here is a teaser.

Note that the page is goarmy.com not .mil or .gov.  Same goes for other US military recruitment home pages.  Wonder if this is something that has been outsourced to the private sector?

Expanding our borders

The problem is the US sinking boats off the coasts of other countries.

The solution offered looks first like this:

"There is no world government to enforce international law. It's always been the case that the strong do what they can, and the weak do what they must."

Then ultimately like this:

Neither the United States nor Ecuador has signed the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea that would provide a forum for hashing out disputes.  (editor's note: a vote on the LOS treaty in the US Senate could come any day right after the start of the new session.)

The concept that US citizens should get active and reel their government in through already existing Constitutional means is not offered as an option.

Finding Recruits

Spoke with a Army recruiter today.  He has the opposite problem I have.  Whereas I have to get people educated and up to speed with what it going on in order to add them to the ranks of the John Birch Society, he has to hope his recruits are less informed as to what is actually going on.

I think the most interesting point he made was that over the last year he has made the decision that he will not be recruiting his own children into the military.  Things are getting that bad.  The best people, the ones who see where things are going, are leaving.

The transition of traditional fighting units, for example armor battalions that have been around since WWII to military police units, is resulting in officers retiring rather than making the move forward into the new "Army of one."

No secret here, but he also reminded me that 24 month limit on mobilization of "part-time" National Guardsmen is coming up fast.  There is a second batch of 5600 stop loss orders on tap for the IRR, but much beyond that and we are back the the "politically suicidal" issue of the draft.
