Today's ironic name

from the AP report:

"At the time of the violence, black men in North Carolina had been able to vote for some three decades as part of Reconstruction following the Civil War, said Jeffrey Crow, deputy secretary of the state Office of Archives and History, which researched the report.

But within a year of the insurrection, the General Assembly was controlled by Democrats and had passed the first Jim Crow law that ended voting rights to blacks."

UNC- Wilmington professor joins free speech battle at UNCG

Allison Jaynes who is leading the charge for the re-establishment of free-speech on the UNCG campus (and who has yet to get public support from any UNCG professor) got an assist today from UNC-Wilmington professor Mike Adams:

"I had a long telephone conversation with a member of the United States House of Representatives after my first encounter with UNCGfs hostility towards the First Amendment. He called my office to suggest that intervention by the Department of Education was needed to cure hostility towards free speech in the UNC system. Today, I am in complete agreement.

Later this week, I will be speaking with that Congressman again..."
