Retired War Hero Speaks Out on Iraq War (Excerpt)

Brigadier General Andrew Gatsis living in retirement in Rocky Mount, NC up I-95 from Fort Bragg, is one of our nation's most highly decorated veterans... [H]e minced no words:

"We never should have gone in there in the first place since we weren't immediately threatened," he thundered. "There were no weapons of mass destruction; Saddam Hussein's regime had no connection to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda, and wasn't responsible for the attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center; and there wasn't any evidence to back up the claim that Iraq was building nuclear weapons capability. All the reasons given by the administration to justify this war have been shown to be false."

"In defending Bush's domestic surveillance program, the lackeys, liars, and lickspittles that compose the conservative media triumphantly note that Democrat presidents Carter and Clinton also authorized domestic spying without obtaining the required warrants. Leaving aside the fact that Mr. Bush publicly acknowledged that such warrants are required, violations of the law do not alter the law itself, or make obedience to that law merely optional."
