Authentic Certificate of Authenticity

There are many objects of art that come with a Certificates of Authenticity.

The World Printmaker's Certificate of Authenticity site does a great job of putting together an example of one and explaining what's important.

One interesting aspect is if the plate, or method of reproduction, was cancelled or destroyed. This shows that the amount is really limited and no more shall be created.

Another part of the certificate is where additional information can be reference to all sorts of material...including third party media like a CD, or probably, a web site.

ArtBusiness.com has good advice and some interesting notes:

One spect is that there are not a lot of laws regarding Certificate of Authenticity and who can create them.

Another concern is that it is only worth the reputation of the authority that backs it. Their qualifications should be stated on the certificate.

Some other aspects of Certificates of Authenticity-

Opals Guaranteed, is pleased to provide you with a completely free Certificate of Authenticity. I guess some folks charge for them...

I am not sure what Grandstand Sports' Lifetime Certificate of Authencity is, but the folks at Grandstand Sports and Memorabilia stand by them.

While perhaps streatching the limits of the meaning of the counter sign, you can get a photo of the actual signing of the piece at Real Deal Memorabilia

..and they come in all shapes and sizes.
