Glazes and Meaning, con't Used on American pots since the early 1800's, Albany slip was made from clay dug up near Albany, New York. It was durable and melted smoothly on pots. (Rowe Pottery) Unfortunately, the price of mining the clay did not keep up with the value of the land and it was turned into a housing development (what I heard) or a shopping mall a couple of years back. Since a ton of potters used Albany slip, numerous substitutes have been created. So when I see a pot with such a glaze, I think back to an important technological compound for the early American ceramic industry. I also see the modern economic factors that effect industry and potters. 6:40:53 AM |
