Yellow Glaze
Glaze Names cont'

In the recent studio ceramic past, having a yellow glaze was not too out of the ordinary.  I've used a few and seen more.

However, when Otto Heino's came out with yellow pots and started to sell them for $20,000.00 (US) each.  A lot of US potters found out that such a glaze has been long sought after and is highly prized in Asia.

Now, there is yellow and there is yellow, the pots that Otto Heino makes are what these conisours are looking for- a high fire, matt, yellow that matches what the ancients were doing.

One can not look at a yellow pot anymore and not be reminded of Otto Heino (and his wife Vivika.)  One might see the pot as (and feel a little) green too!

Note:  I was lucky enough to have visited and met the Heinos a long while back.  Absolutely super people who took time out of their busy schedule to show us their studio and chat.  Further, the yellow glaze is just part of a long and deep history they have with ceramics and art.
