Make Working Mom Smile!

A photo project: This is the weekend to SMILE!!

Make Me Smile!

5:53:43 PM

Miscellany

§ - Language lessons from Rachel Lucas - Letter to dunderheads - Whoever wrote this is smarter than me

§ - Survey Finds Subscribers Prefer Weekly Newsletters - "As a result of the findings, the editors have decided to change their publishing schedule to every Tuesday." - Glad somebody's avoiding the Monday morning rush in my mailbox. I'm a lot more likely to actually read newsletters I get on other days.

§ - When Dads Clean House, It Pays Off Big Time - "By performing domestic service with their children, fathers model cooperative family partnerships."

§ - The vision thing - "This probably sounds all too familiar to people who've been wearing glasses a long time, but I've only had 'real' glasses for two years."

§ - Last day of school - "I think to myself that teachers are grossly underpaid animal trainers."

§ - "Justice is blind...and sometimes drunk" - "When you hit two parked cars with any car you're no longer being targeted. You just volunteered."

§ - big pimpin' in the middle school parkin' lot - "My mother often chastises me for letting Natalie go to school in baggy pants and sweatshirts. If mom only knew what the other girls were wearing, she probably wouldn't mind Natalie's outfits at all."

§ - New word for today: Hebesphenomegacorona

§ - The End of the Road for 'Devil's Highway' - "As though it wasn't inauspicious enough to be stuck squarely on U.S. Route 666, the building's number was also 666."

Friday Five — Unreality?

1. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have? Get married. (Well, I wasn't about to end up married to some jerk just to BE married!)

2. When someone asks your opinion about a new haircut/outfit/etc, are you always honest? People don't ask me this sort of stuff! I dress for comfort more than looks so I guess nobody thinks I have enough taste for my opinion to matter.

3. Have you ever found out something about a friend and then wished you hadn't? What happened? Of course I have, but I'm not going to discuss it here!

4. If you could live in any fictional world (from a book/movie/game/etc.) which would it be and why?

The Star Trek universe has eliminated two of the biggest bugbears of my present life:

1) At least on Earth and in Starfleet, money and health care are not issues. Everybody gets what they need as a matter of course.

2) Replicator technology would be the perfect solution to my terrible eating habits. I tend to skip meals and then overeat when I do bother to fix something. With a handy dandy replicator I could get exactly what I want to eat at the moment I want it. I'd then eat just a few bites because the leftovers would never go to waste—the atoms would just be recycled into the next meal—and I'd know I could always get more later. (As things stand now, with the time I have to invest in shopping, cooking, and cleanup, when I fix a meal it feels like I deserve to pig out as a reward for working so hard. Bad!)

5. What's one talent/skill you don't have but always wanted? Drawing/painting. Have all these great illustrations in my head but they're doomed to stay there.
