Though I would doubt that the store owner was as ignorant as claimed about the book's release date, it's glaringly obvious that the reporter and publisher knew exactly what was going on. I note that the book excerpts are not on the Daily News website. Were they earlier or were they just in the paper edition?
Harry Potter author JK Rowling has filed a lawsuit against the New York Daily News after the tabloid published minor excerpts from her latest book. The British author and her US publisher, Scholastic, said they had filed the suit in New York seeking tens of millions of dollars in damages. The New York Daily News reported how it had obtained a copy of the book at a store in Brooklyn.
Four days before the release of the eagerly awaited Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the owner of a health food store sold his last copy of the children's novel to a News reporter.
"People just didn't believe the book was available in a neighborhood health food store," said the 43-year-old owner, whose name is being withheld by The News.
Update: The boxes clearly have a date marked on them. The pictures here are not large enough to read all the lettering on the box, but I'm guessing the store owner would have had a hard time opening the boxes and not being aware of what he was doing.
