Here We Go Again...

  • Blackout Hits Italy During All-Night Festival
"Authorities have repeatedly said that power demand is growing faster than supply and that imported electricity would not make up for insufficient production in the long term."
  • Blackout Plunges Italy Into Darkness
"There was no offical tally of customers without power, but early reports indicated most of Italy's 58 million people could be affected."
  • Italian Blackout Cuts Short Rome All-Night Party
"We're not happy at all. Everything was fine until about 3.30am (0130 GMT). Then it all happened at once and now we're angry and wet."
  • Massive Blackout Sweeps Italy
"As far as we know it's all across Italy. We don't know the cause yet."

    Miscellany

    § - Recipe - Etherian's Yummy Chicken

§ - For Red Green and Ed Frid - After Attack by Grizzly, Duct Tape Does the Job

§ - Two wrongs... - Man Steals ID of Sex Offender

§ - A product review by an actual consumer - Lies, Lies, Lies...

§ - Monkey Loose Inside Parliament - "Dozens of workers, including security officers, had been unable to catch the primate, which was inside a medical clinic on the eighth-floor of a parliamentary office tower."

§ - Duh! - All Segway Scooters Are Recalled - "The Consumer Product Safety Commission said riders could fall if the machine's batteries lose power." - Let's see... When the batteries are going dead in my flashlight, the light gets dim. When the batteries are going dead in my radio, I can only listen to AM stations. When the batteries are going dead in my calculator, I start getting wrong answers. So if the Segway runs on batteries, what the heck would I expect? Or maybe I should protest because my flashlights and radios and calculators don't have warning labels on them!!! - "The problem that exists is basically like having to print, 'Caution, coffee is hot' on a coffee cup."

§ - I'm watching... - Troop Beverly Hills - This movie is FUN! Great for those days when you need to shake a gloomy mood. Sure, the storyline is totally predictable—the good guys gals win and everybody's life is so much better at the end, except for the villainess, who gets her comeuppance, of course—but isn't that exactly what you want on those days when Real Life sucks?

§ - Easy Entertaining for the Unexpected Guest - "Have a place in your home set aside for the unexpected visitor. A living room is ideal since it is a place that is usually not in use by most families on a daily basis." - Uh... Who does this author hang out with? Almost nobody I know has a separate family room. In my home, the living room is indeed where we do our "living." My kitchen is too small to have the table in there, so the living room is also where we do our eating. I have no intention of staying in the bedroom all day just to keep the living room tidy for company!

    What the...?

Okay, I realize that FOX Sports is ticked off that they'd already scheduled the A's @ M's game back when they thought it might be important, but now that it's up against the Pirates @ Cubs game, which really is important, they're really shortchanging Mariners and Athletics fans who are still interested in our game. Sorry, this split screen thing, with the Mariners in the smaller box without the stats just DOES NOT CUT IT. (Sorry, some of us are poor and still stuck with 13" tv sets. That teeny tiny corner of that already-too-small screen is a joke.)

Yes, I guess I want to see the Cubs win, but at this point, even more I'd like this next-to-last chance to watch my Mariners this season. I've just muted the tv (sorry, Dave Henderson, Mariners color commentator) and just turned on the radio instead. (Of course, Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizzs are calling everything before the tv broadcast shows it—when FOX can be bothered—like they're psychic!) Actually, I should change tv stations altogether and muck up the FOX ratings. (I have digital cable—well, it's either that or a big tv—so I'm sure somebody somewhere is checking up on my viewing stats.) Actually, a nasty email or phone call to FOX is probably in order at this point...

(I note that since I started writing this post the Cubs coverage has pretty much been dropped from the broadcast. Because the Cubs are clearly winning? Or because I'm not the only Mariners fan complaining about our game coverage being shortchanged?)
