Retail Scanning Woes Continue
Retail scanners continue to create problems for consumers. North Carolina reports levying twice as many fines this year against retailers, mostly against K-mart. Utah scored relatively high in scanning errors in a 1998 FTC report, although the situation has improved since then. The Utah Division of Regulatory Services monitors scanning compliance.

Supreme Court to hear Texas Sodomy Case

The case will test the constitutionality of states that maintain laws against consensual sodomy. Utah is one of nine states which codify a prohibition against such activity.
