Tranquil Sunday

Awakened at 6:06am by the glow of orange and pink beaming thru the blind slats, I make a mad dash for the digital and head outside to capture the fleeting moments of daybreak. Having done so, I note that I have a curious desire for Krispy Kreme donuts so I fumble to find some "warmer clothes", somewhat mat my tossled hair and search for the car keys. I am greeted by the sight of....NO ONE on the usually heavily ladened streets and I am delighted to find that I "make" EVERY green light! Pulling into the drive thru, I likewise happily note that there is but one car ahead of me, a K9 cop unit with "Killer" in the backseat anxiously wagging that tail. "Could it be that HE gets a Krispy Kreme this morning, or has his handler told him about the "perp" thay are tracking today?" No matter, they quickly pull forward and I place my order. Inching toward the window I am once again excited as I note my "Krispy Kreme Free One Dozen Card" will be FULLY punched after this transaction (whooo hooo). I exit as easily as I arrived with similar traffic, NONE.Tranqil And although I do not "make" all the green lights on the way home, the drive is just as tranquil as before. Ahhh, the smell of coffee brewing  relaxing before the TV channel set to HGTV and some gardening show (do you ever know enough?) Now it's time for the ritual grocery shopping excursion, which in itself is not all that an unpleasant experience if you arrive on an early Sunday morning. The shelves are fully stocked, the employees very friendly as they have not had a days worth of spilled items, complaints about unfound foods or screaming kids crying because some OTHER kid got the "plastic racer car basket". I fill up, and check out applauding myself that I have "SAVED" so much money as related by the cheery register girl. A quick stop at the gas station I notice a squashed bug on the windshield....better squeegy that thing. To my utter dismay, I find that the "water" in the squeegy bucket has been somehow "tainted" as I smear the window with what appears to be oil. Lovely! Did you know that OIL and WATER do not MIX? I drive home half squinting thru the fog and ease into the drive. Unload those groceries and head out with the Windex. Now THATS some real cleaning! Back inside to read the paper and catch up on the worldly news....yep, another bomb blast, another politician caught doing something he shouldn't...HEY...here's an item...44 more days left in this year. I ponder the fact that I am MORE excited by this mundane tidbit and rather complacent regarding the "death and tragedy" of far off countries and the issues concerning my elected officials. Hmmmmm,....that's not good. I decide that I need to enlighten myself more so I head out for the book store, Barnes and Noble, a HUGE one has opened nearby complete with a Starbuck's inside (so you KNOW it must be good). I don't find the books I seek but I do pick up a copy of a digital camera review magazine and a book entitled "The Weblog Handbook" by Rebecca Blood, I decide on both. Home again, I set the swordfish steak to marinate and peruse the books. A quick walk around the garden to see what things still need to be completed before the winter rains arrive and I decide....they can wait a bit longer. The afternoon arrives and I ready the oven. Side dishes will be garlic butter mashed potatos and sliced tomatoes with dill sprinked atop. A nice wine "Summers End" from the Maurice Carrie Winery in Temecula , purchased a few weeks ago on my visit there, will complete my meal. A wonderful flavor and now full, I retire to the sofa and doze off for an hour or so. Now awake, the sun is setting and my day complete. Seems this entry is longer than my day...but I am satisfied and...tranquil.
