Everything's Coming Up Roses

Sunday's are typical "relaxation days" around my home and more often than not, you can find me out and about in my garden. Hmmmm...now that I think about it, I'm out there nearly EVERYDAY, so does that mean I'm REALLY RELAXED??? Anyway, gardens, no matter what their size, need some type of upkeep and mine is no exception. As I pruned back the roses, in anticipation of winter, many overspent blooms now drop their petals in a shower of color and texture.Rose Salad Gathering these silky works of art, I wonder whether they have more purpose in life than just to adorn the tip if the stem. Certainly, roses are wonderful objects of affection that nearly no person can resist. Their fragrance and beauty preceed them and it's no wonder that they are the Queen of the flower kingdom. But what of the spent petals? Sure, we all know of the "potpourri" and what would a wedding be without the tiny flower girl who drizzles them haphazard whilst walking down that long walk. Perhaps you have even been lucky enough to enjoy that romantic idea of a warm perfumed bath, candles and YES, rose petals floating in the water. But is that all there is? Not by a long shot! In fact, I have come across a website dedicated to the use of rose petals in all sorts of atypical configurations. Recipes ranging from hors d'oeuvres to desserts and everthing in between, you will find so many uses for them, it will make you want to stop at the flower shop on the way home from the grocery just to buy the ingredients.Take a look and maybe you can pick out a great little dish to make for grandma's Thanksgiving celebration...just watchout for those "candied spiders", remember they may be protein but not many people have that strong of a constitution!
