On Iraq and Columnists.

This post is a response to Joseph Finn, who posted in my comments about an editorial in the Chron regarding the war in Iraq, and this response will likely be the last I have to say about it:

So just because some columnist wrote it, does that mean I have to believe it? You'll notice that I've not argued in the past about WMD, I've never doubted that Iraq, while they may have had some capability, were not an imminent threat (nor do I believe that the North Koreans are an immediate threat either), however I think that the excuse we used to depose him was a pretty decent one.

We didn't need the UN's help to get rid of Saddam. We just didn't want any interference while we did it. We bought ourselves enough time to depose a man who'd killed thousands upon thousands of his own and could destabilize the region with any WMDs he was planning to build and sell, or worse, use on Israel.

Not a bad situation, if you ask me, but it was a calculated risk depending on what happens post-Saddam in Iraq. With Iraq out of the way, however, it's time to focus ourselves on the other side of the Middle East equation: Israel. Now, I'm all for beating Sharon about the head and shoulders until he either leaves office or accepts the roadmap, as the Palestinians have already done, to their credit. Deposing Arafat and Sharon is the only way to resolving that situation. We've done half of it and the other will happen within the next year or so.

After that? Who knows. The future is an unwritten book. The best we can hope for is a stable region that in turn provides the world with a usable and finite resource until such time as we can develop a way not to need that resource any longer.

Matrix Reloaded

Tiffany and I have just returned from the Hoffman Center where we saw Matrix Reloaded. I suppose all I have to say is...

Whoa.
