InTheseTimes: "President George W. Bush has claimed that God speaks to him. More worldly voices, it now appears, may also be speaking to him at key moments.
Viewers and journalists watching Bush in his first debate with Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry have commented on his odd behavior in Miami. To some he seemed peevish and antsy - almost wired.
Now there is evidence that he may have been - in an electronic way - by having cues and lines fed to him through a hidden high-tech earpiece."
If it is true this would be hilarious. And I don't put it past him and his cronies to try a trick like this. Dubya on remote control. The Frankenstein monster on the loose.

Indymedia: "Thursday morning, US authorities issued a federal order to Rackspace ordering them to hand over Indymedia web servers to the requesting agency. Rackspace, which provides hosting services for more that 20 Indymedia sites at its London facility, complied and turned over the requested servers, effectively removing those sites from the internet.
Since the subpoena was issued to Rackspace and not to Indymedia, the reasons for this action are still unknown to Indymedia. Talking to Indymedia volunteers, Rackspace stated that 'they cannot provide Indymedia with any information regarding the order'. ISPs have received gag orders in similar situations which prevent them from updating the concerned parties on what is happening.
It is unclear to Indymedia how and why a server that is outside the US jurisdiction can be seized by US authorities.
The list of affected local media collectives includes Ambazonia, Uruguay, Andorra, Poland, Western Massachusetts, Nice, Nantes, Lilles, Marseille (all France), Euskal Herria (Basque Country), Liege, East and West Vlaanderen, Antwerpen (all Belgium), Belgrade, Portugal, Prague, Galiza, Italy, Brazil, UK, part of the Germany site, and the global Indymedia Radio site."

Aardvark: "Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek wins the Nobel Prize for Literature 2004. This is, um, quite a surprise. Not because Jelinek isn't good, but because next to Thomas Bernhard, she is probably the most controversial contemporary Austrian writer. Fervently anti-establishment, anti-Catholic, and an outspoken critic of the current conservative Austrian government, she has been the victim of a number of rather dirty media campaigns against her, which makes this kind of recognition from abroad all the more significant."
