Post-Gazette: "As the National Guard delivered food to the New Orleans convention center yesterday, American Red Cross officials said that federal emergency management authorities would not allow them to do the same."

AmericaBlog: "Three tons of food ready for delivery by air to refugees in St. Bernard Parish and on Algiers Point sat on the Crescent City Connection bridge Friday afternoon as air traffic was halted because of President Bush's visit to New Orleans, officials said.
Whoever halted the food delivery should be fired and brought up on charges of criminal negligence."

More cases of criminal negligence.

The missing vice-president, Dick Cheney, has finally been found. That was indeed a scary moment we had there.
"Yes, Cheney is back in Washington, smiling, tan and well-rested. Fishing in Wyoming was more important to him this week than the incredible agony and suffering of Americans on the Gulf Coast."
We can now at least scrap one name from the list of missing persons.

A picture named Fox.jpg When even Fox reporters are angry or crying while they are reporting on the squalor and inhuman treatment of people in New Orleans and almost shouting their ideas and advice about what urgently needs to be done, then you know America is angry.
Notice the difference between the reporter behind the desk who says 'let's see this all in perspective' and the reporter on the premises saying 'this is all the perspective you need!'.
Watch the video, it's a must.

People approaching policemen for help were rebuffed with guns at point blank. People were not allowed to leave New Orleans, while hundreds of busses are just standing there useless.
The Bush Administration is a bunch of callous, incompetent bastards.

NYTimes: "'I hope people don't play politics during this period of time,' Mr. Bush told Diane Sawyer of ABC's Good Morning America in the Roosevelt Room of the White House."
If ever there is a good time to talk politics, it is now, Mr president. You are responsible for the reduction of funds to strengthen protective levees, you are responsible for breaking down environmental protection, you are responsible for increased global warming, you are responsible for the late relief response. When camera crews were already present in the area, the federal presence, let alone aid, was nowhere to be seen.
"Bloggers also circulated a picture of Mr. Bush playing a guitar at an event in California on Tuesday to imply that he was fiddling while New Orleans drowned. In fact, the picture was taken when the country singer Mark Wills presented Mr. Bush with a guitar backstage at North Island Naval Air Station in Coronado, Calif., after Mr. Bush gave a speech marking the 60th anniversary of the Japanese surrender in World War II."
In fact, the picture was taken while the hurricane was ravaging the Gulf Coast. At the same time Condoleezza Rice was on a shopping trip and only after people angrily shouted at her, she returned to her office. And where is vice-president Dick Cheney?
Newsday: "The dean of New York's congressional delegation suggested in a television interview that Vice President Dick Cheney may not be healthy enough to perform his duties."

Chris Gulker: "FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) suggests that you send money to televangelist Pat Robertson, among other faith-based charities, as a way of helping the Katrina victims in New Orleans and elsewhere ('Operation Blessing' is Robertson's operation - 3rd on the list). The same agency that has left people to die in unevacuated hospitals, is busy suggesting that donations go to right wing groups? Outrageous... Pat Robertson keeps some awful company...
More on this.

The Survival of New Orleans blog is still working, but can soon run out of fuel.
The Nation: "Even before a start had been made on assessing the damage caused by the tropical storm, energy corporations were cashing in. And every indication is that they plan to continue doing so - perhaps taking prices over the $4-a-gallon mark, according to James DiGeorgia, editor and publisher of the Gold & Energy Advisor and author of The Global War for Oil.
No one debates the fact that the hurricane has done significant damage to oil rigs, refineries and delivery systems along the Gulf Coast, a region that accounts for roughly 10 percent of US refining capacity. But roughly 90 percent of US refining capacity remains fully functional and, it should not be forgotten, the US has not stopped importing oil.
The Environmental Protection Agency suspended summertime antipollution measures, lifting the requirement that refiners lower fuel volatility and cut sulphur levels. At the same time, the Administration moved to release oil from the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which was created more than three decades ago with the precise purpose of boosting fuel supplies in order to keep a lid on rising wholesale gasoline prices in a circumstance such as the one that has now developed.
Despite all the aid they are getting, however, the oil companies are not giving anything back. There is no evidence of a willingness on the part of these highly profitable corporations to sacrifice in a time of national emergency.
Make no mistake: These corporations should be able to absorb a hit. Over the past year and a half, the four largest oil companies - ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco, Royal Dutch/Shell Group and BP Group PLC - have pocketed close to $100 billion in profits. During the first quarter of 2005 alone, those firms pulled in a cool $23 billion."

CommonDreams: "Up to 12 more tropical storms are expected to follow Hurricane Katrina, the most destructive storm to ever strike the United States, and four may be major hurricanes, according to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)."
So now is the time to take measures for the future. Now is the time to take action and assess mistakes. And it is time to kick some Republican ass.

Dennis Kucinich: "Our indifferent government is in a crisis of legitimacy. If it continues to ignore its basic responsibility for the health and welfare of the American people, will there ever be enough money to clean up after their indifference?
As our government continues to squander human and monetary resources of this country on the war, people are beginning to ask, 'Isn't it time we began to take care of our own people here at home? Isn't it time we rescued our own citizens? Isn't it time we fed our own people? Isn't it time we sheltered our own people? Isn't it time we provided physical and economic security for our own people?' And isn't it time we stopped the oil companies from profiting from this tragedy?"

Oil stocks are up 5% this week. "A rough calculation indicates that Exxon's value has increased by about $20 billion this week."
Bush has asked for a $10 billion Katrina Aid Package. People are angry, Mr president. You will have to do better.
HoustonChronicle: "The Navy has hired Houston-based Halliburton Co. to restore electric power, repair roofs and remove debris at three naval facilities in Mississippi damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The company is not involved in the Army Corps of Engineers' effort to repair New Orleans' levees.."
One: military facilities get priority. Two: the corrupt neocon corporation will again benefit from disaster.
Why do neocons hate their fellow Americans so much?
