Troops Out Now: "Now, more than ever, it is clear that we need a massive people's movement to stop the Bush agenda of endless war and cuts in vital services. Join us on September 10, from 1:30 to 6:00 pm for a National Strategy Meeting to help build a movement to Bring the Troops Home Now and demand 'Money for the Gulf States, not for War!'"

The stupidity and immorality of the Bush administration has no limits.
A plane with evacuees destined for Charleston, South Carolina, landed in Charleston, West Virginia.
SaltLakeTribune: "As New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin pleaded on national television for firefighters - his own are exhausted after working around the clock for a week - a battalion of highly trained men and women sat idle Sunday in a muggy Sheraton Hotel conference room in Atlanta."
What can you expect from Bush cronies: Attytood: "Reversing an eight-year crusade to rid the now-embattled Federal Emegency Management Agency of political patronage, a newly elected George W. Bush in 2001 named two key players in his Florida recount fight to important FEMA posts."

America is indeed a class society: "No civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns or other firearms, said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of police. 'Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons,' he said.
But that order apparently does not apply to hundreds of security guards hired by businesses and some wealthy individuals to protect property."

"Welcome to upside-down-land: the areas at risk for Katrina were quite remarkably the areas not included in Bush's declaration of emergency."

As feared after Barbara Bush's example, the American Right is raising its ugly head.
SeeingTheForest: From right-wing radio: "The New Orleans 'welfare riff-raff' have 'hit the jackpot' and are going to get new houses and cars and 'we' will all have to pay for 'their' windfall. Now 'they' are going to be bringing their 'crime' to decent cities."

The military have immediately seized upon the opportunities:
OperationFlashlight: "Doling out food to the hungry crowds overflowing Houston's Astrodome, the National Guard has engaged in ad hoc recruiting in recent days."

After his absence during and after the hurricane (in search of a new home? vacation?), vice-president Dick Cheney, in Gulfport, Mississippi on a tour of the Katrina hurricane zone, was told to 'go fuck yourself, Mr. Cheney' twice on live television. Watch the video.

Pets were not allowed on the buses that took people out of New Orleans. But it is heart-warming to see that some people still know what real charity is. You have to watch this video. This is the America that is worth saving.
You can't expect human feelings in compassionate conservatists. At best they organize a day of prayer and only raise the amount destined for relief after being forced to it.
Shame on you, George W. Bush.
