ACDN: "It was announced today by the Assistant Secretary General for Defence Investment of NATO, Mr. Marshall S. Billingslea, that the 26 member countries of NATO have begun building a 75 million euro over 6 years command and control system for missile defense as well as an integrated test bed for the security of all its 26 member countries.
Actually, this extraordinarily expensive 'Missile Defense' is just a new way for military companies making more and more money and being sponsored by citizens' taxes."
The money needed for the modernisation of Tridents and missile defense is taken from health care and community projects.
Guardian: "The government's £12.4bn programme to upgrade IT systems in the NHS experienced more than 110 technical breakdowns during the past four months, it emerged last night."
BBC: "The leader of the Anglican Church in Wales, Archbishop Barry Morgan, is to hit out at plans to upgrade the UK's Trident nuclear missile system.
He is expected to say the £25bn costs could prevent 16,000 children dying each day from diseases caused by contaminated water and malnutrition."
Nether-World: "This weekend the Labour Party will hold its annual party conference in Manchester. With all the recent drama over the leadership of the Party, the litany of policy failures and a looming NHS strike, it should be an interesting event. Not that New Labour is planning to let anyone but the most loyal of party members into the conference. Rather than have another repetition of last year when an 80 year old refugee from Nazi Germany was roughed up and manhandled out of the auditorium for shouting 'nonsense', the Party intend to strictly veto attendees.
However, this is the best chance we will have to send Tony Blair an unequivocal message: It's Time To Go!"

Really though, the E.Coli outbreak is no laughing matter. Unfortunately, President Bush cut FDA funding in 2006, leaving less money available for testing the safety of both imported and domestically produced foods, stocked the FDA with cronies who care more about corporate immunity than consumer safety, and presided over the most lax FDA enforcement era in some time. So while I am not claiming in any way, shape or form that Bush caused this E.Coli outbreak, his policies and practices surely haven't help alleviate these instances. In fact, they've made them all the more likely to occur. Just as with Katrina (which Bush also did not create) American's are bearing the ill effects of a president whose policies care more for corporate profit than for people's safety. And that, my friends, is the real danger facing America today."
