CommonDreams: "Amnesty International is deeply disturbed by the proposed compromise between Senate leaders and the White House on detainee legislation. Without further clarification the legislation leaves loopholes big enough to drive a Humvee through. The parties appear to have negotiated themselves right back to the starting line. The core of the public debate between senior Republican leaders and the administration largely hinged on the president's ability to interpret the Geneva Conventions as he saw fit and as he basically granted himself authority to do in the war on terror. Key Senators argued, rightly, that the Conventions must stay intact. Yet, in the alleged 'win-win' compromise, it appears that the president can reinterpret the Conventions, amend the War Crimes Act and even give a greenlight to treatment long- considered torture. Without additional clarity, the proposed agreement betrays American values of justice and long-held agreements and obligations on basic humane treatment. There can be no compromise for torture."

As from now you can safely 'water-board' the president of the United States. He himself agreed to the procedure. And he is a war criminal.
AmericaBlog: "John McCain, John Warner and Lindsey Graham say it's okay for foreign governments to nearly drown US troops."

As far as George W. Bush is concerned, he is going senile.
Yahoo: "President Bush said Friday that if a U.S. official tried to strong-arm Pakistan into fighting the war on terror after the Sept. 11 attacks, he didn't know about it."

George W. Bush may have a short memory, but we won't forget.
Guardian: "At least 25,000 anti-war protesters are expected in Manchester tomorrow for a march to coincide with the start of the Labour conference."

Unfortunately, it's all quiet on the Democratic front. They went senile as well. Or they are too busy with interns.
ThinkProgress: "In April, Housing Secretary Alphonso Jackson told a group of real estate officials that he once canceled a government contract because the contractor was critical of President Bush. Awarding contracts based on political leanings 'violates federal law'. Jackson is a 'longtime Bush friend' and former neighbor in Dallas, Texas.
Secretary Jackson's Chief of Staff also identified other instances of Secretary Jakcson intervening with contractors whom he did not like. Reviews of political contributions indicated these contractors had Democratic political affiliations."
